New Hanover County is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join the Department of Social Services.
This position is responsible for performing paraprofessional legal activities to support the processing of court cases.
Duties will include preparing petitions, summons, and notices of hearings in juvenile, competency, guardianship, and adult protective services cases; conducting legal and case research to include discovery and interviewing witnesses; attending trials and hearings; drafting orders and other legal documents; monitoring service of process to include subpoenas; coordinating attorneys' trial schedules; and performing general office duties such as answering phones, maintaining files and scheduling meetings.

Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.
Salary Information: ,Effective July 2022, the hiring range for this position is $48,678- $65,715.
Salary will be determined based on qualifications.

Bilingual candidates are eligible for a differential (5%) when performing Spanish language interpretation during the course of work.
Trainee Opportunity: Applicants who meet the required minimum education but lack the required Paralegal experience may be considered, and if hired, will be paid at least the minimum trainee rate and will remain at a trainee rate until the minimum experience qualifications are met.
The maximum period for an employee to remain in a trainee status is two (2) years.
All experience requirements must be met within two (2) years of employment.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Required Education and Experience: NC Notary (within 6 months of employment)Associates' Degree in an approved paralegal technology degree programTwo (2) years of experience (preferably with experience in Family Law and/or Civil Law)What will make your application stand out: NC State Bar Paralegal Certification (highly preferred)Prior experience in Family Law and/or Civil Law SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Closing Date: This position is a continuous posting and open until filled, however, priority consideration will be given to applications received by Monday, August, 21, 2023.
