SUMMARY The Medical Assistant Supervisor (MA Supervisor) works under the Director of Nursing.
The MA Supervisor is responsible for the development of medical assistant policies, assisting with quality improvement efforts, the coordination of staffing and professional development for the medical assistants and support staff of the health center’s medical department.
Duties include, but are not limited to managing the staff MAs of the Community Health Center (CHC): facilitating and managing problem solving; staffing, monitoring performance of MAs The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

This position is inclusive of the roles, responsibilities, and duties of the MA Supervisor position.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Patient Care – 50% Provide back-up support for lead medical assistants and medical assistant team.
The MA Supervisor will assist with accessing patients in the health center and via telephone to provide quality care and to improve patient outcomes by strengthening continuity of care.
Review laboratory results and other clinical information pertinent to patient health Interface with patient and their relatives to provide instruction, promote participation in patient care.
Interpret and implement safety practices; set standards for the medical assistants and nurses in the maintenance of a clean clinic setting.
Maintain required patient records, reports and statistics for administrative purposes.
Ensure compliance with established clinic policies procedures, objective, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
Assist as needed including medication refill requests, specialty and procedure referrals, and clinic chart reviews for MAs.
Review charts, lab test results, and encounter forms for completeness and to assess follow-up as needed.
Assist with intake, and set-up for patient visits.
Works collaboratively with clinic staff on programs to improve patient outcomes Training/Supervision/Administrative – 50% Leadership role for the Infection Control Plan; advisory member or infection control committee.
Assists in the hiring component of staffing to include participating in the employment process, and participating in training, and assigning and scheduling work.
Completes employee evaluations and annual competencies.
Responsible for scheduling, timekeeping and payroll duties.
Track leave requests to ensure proper documentation of employee's time.
Maintain calendar-recording staff-leave dates to monitor for adequate coverage The MA Supervisor is responsible for ensuring MA coverage during all hours of operation.
Orients new MAs to the health center.
Assists in coordinating MA in-services and trainings.
Assist in the supervision of work and performance of MA staff including input for performance reviews and corrective action plans as needed.
Assist with the training of nurses and medical assistants on health education, laboratory, and dispensary services.
Assist in providing on-going supervision in the same areas.
Provide support to the MAs.
Assists with daily and monthly quality assurance review of point of care testing.
Perform other administrative tasks and clinical care as assigned by the Director of Nursing Continuous training of oneself to include skills and knowledge that relate to leadership, management of employees or supervision with the goals of improving one's capability, capacity, productivity, and performance.
In conjunction with the Director of Nursing, identify and implement revenue generating services currently not being reimbursed or provided at MedNorth.
Assist with other administrative projects and tasks as needed.
Assists with daily and monthly quality assurance reviews including emergency kit check off.
Assists in organizing and participating in quality improvement activities using the PDSA model to improve systems/services.
MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience: Graduation from Accredited School of Nursing Minimum of five years’ experience in clinical nursing in an outpatient medical clinic or hospital.
FQHC experience preferred.
2 years’ experience working in a patient centered medical initiative 1 years’ experience in case/care management 3 years of supervisory or administrative experience Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills Excellent communication skills both written and verbal Computer literacy Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook Special Skills/Equipment: Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Demonstrate the skills to provide age-appropriate care to the clients of the clinic.
Demonstrate knowledge of the principals of life span growth and development and possess the ability to interpret information relative to the patients age.
Infection Control Experience or Certification Preferred Experience in the development and implementation of training clinical materials Expectations: Attendance and punctuality are necessary.
Ability to work well with a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to problem solve and be self-motivated.
Must have a commitment to excellence and high standards.
Must have excellent written and oral skills, strong organizational, problem- solving, and analytical skills.
Must have ability to multitask, manage priorities and workflow.
Required to have versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm and have acute attention to detail.
Able to operate computer software with training.
Expected to have strong interpersonal skills and can understand and follow written/verbal instructions.
Able to work independently with little or no supervision.
Required to have the ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels and with external customers.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to speak English fluently.
The ability to speak other languages is a plus.

MedNorth Health Center provides comprehensive health care services, inside a multi-cultural medical/dental clinic, to all individuals; insured, uninsured, and underinsured.
The building is heated in winter and air conditioned in the summer with noise levels of moderate to loud.
We serve patients who speak multiple languages and who may need the assistance of an interpreter.
In this position one may be subject to exposure to copier toner, correction fluid, bright fluorescent lighting, and continuous personal computer exposure.
This job is a Blood borne Pathogen’s risk category III position.
